Contemporary biological threats necessitates that biological defense transforms into a routine, whole-of-Army effort that ensures mission accomplishment despite the presence of biological hazards. This is outlined in the Army Biodefense Strategy. USANCA is the specified proponent for Biodefense

Our adversaries see the biological domain as new front in modern warfare and biological agents as an asymmetric capability that can neutralize the Army’s ability to project and sustain combat power globally. We have seen firsthand how biological events can disrupt the entire force. Additionally, a convergence of advanced biotechnology and artificial intelligence are lowering the technical barriers to engineering biological weapons.
From the Army’s perspective, source of the threat matters less than ensuring the readiness of the Total Army to project forces, build combat power, and sustain operations despite the presence of biological hazards.
As the specified proponent for Biological Defense, USANCA leads the implementation of the Army Biodefense Strategy via the Army Biodefense Forum and Army modernization fora. In doing so, USANCA partners closely with OTSG, MEDCoE, MSCoE, MRDC, USAMRIID, and Theater Army staffs.
The Army’s 2035 end state is an Army that possesses the institutional knowledge, advanced early warning, and hardened equipment needed to deploy, fight, and win decisively in a biologically contested environment.
USANCA’s Biodefense team stands ready to ensure that as the character of war evolves, the United States Army remains protected, resilient and ready to dominate the battlespace of today and tomorrow.
