TNOC Icon Theater Nuclear Operations Course
Synopsis: The Theater Nuclear Operations Course (TNOC) is a 5-day hosted course that provides training for planners, support staff, targeting staff, and staff nuclear planners for joint nuclear operations and targeting. The course provides instruction on theater integration of US nuclear capabilities into conventional operations, U.S. nuclear policy, joint nuclear doctrine, nuclear effects modeling, consequences of execution, and targeting concepts. A tour of the classified Nuclear Weapons Instructional Museum (NWIM) (at the SECRET//CNWDI) is also included for those courses hosted at Kirtland, AFB. TNOC is the final requirement needed for the U.S. Army skill identifier 5H. (SI 5H is open to all Army Officers)

Objectives:
  • Understand both U.S. and NATO Nuclear Policy
  • Understand the U.S. nuclear planning and execution process
  • Be familiar with nuclear command and control system, nuclear safety, and nuclear surety
  • Understand the targeting effects of nuclear weapon employment
  • Be familiar with the U.S nuclear weapons stockpile and associated delivery systems
  • Understand the USSTRATCOM nuclear planning process and associated tools
  • Integrate nuclear weapon employment into conventional plans and operations
  • Apply the Theater Nuclear Planning process as part of an end-of-course exercise

Who Should Take This Course: Military and Federal employees who are theater-level planners, support staff, targeteers, and nuclear staff planners (through O-5) and GS equivalent.

Prerequisites: NONE

Course Classification: SECRET

Security Requirements: Restricted Data (RD) and Critical Nuclear Weapons Design Information (CNWDI). Students who are not read on to CNWDI will be read on the first day of the course and read off on the final day.
